Glamour Boy No More: Kaizer Chiefs Say Goodbye to Edmilson Dove in Surprise Exit

Just when Kaizer Chiefs fans were starting to think the transfer window couldn’t get more dramatic—boom—another shocker! Edmilson Dove, a key figure at Naturena and a fan favourite, is officially leaving the club after three solid seasons in gold and black.

What Went Down?

In a move that’s left many scratching their heads, Chiefs have announced that they will not be renewing Dove’s contract, which expires at the end of June. The decision comes even though the Mozambican defender was a regular starter in the latter stages of the 2024/25 season and looked to be in fine form.

Chiefs’ Farewell Message

In their official statement, Amakhosi were full of praise for the 29-year-old:

“Kaizer Chiefs and defender Edmilson Dove will part ways when his contract expires at the end of June. The Mozambican international, who joined Amakhosi in August 2022, has been an integral part of the team,” the club said.

“During his three seasons, he featured in 56 official matches, showing his quality both at left-back and centre-back. He even captained the side a few times and chipped in with two goals.”

The club wrapped it up with a heartfelt message of gratitude, wishing him success in the next chapter of his football journey.

A Sudden Exit Amid Big Changes

Dove becomes the fourth player to exit the Soweto giants after the 2024/25 campaign, following the departures of Sabelo Radebe, Ranga Chivaviro, and the conclusion of Njabulo Blom’s loan spell.

But what makes Dove’s departure particularly surprising is how much responsibility he carried in recent matches. After shaking off a nasty injury early in the season, he clawed his way back into the lineup and ended the season strong. With his versatility and leadership, few expected his name to be next on the chopping block.

What’s Next for Dove and Chiefs?

Dove previously made a name for himself at Cape Town City before being brought to Naturena by Arthur Zwane in 2022. Now, fans will be watching closely to see if he sticks around in the PSL or explores new pastures abroad.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have some work to do. With Dove gone, the question on everyone’s lips is: Who will fill his boots? A new defensive signing could be on the horizon, and fans will be eager to see how the club plans to restructure its backline.

One thing is certain: Edmilson Dove may be leaving Naturena, but his impact on the pitch and the memories he leaves behind won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
